Paul H. McIntyre
President & CEO of KIISS

In 1984, Paul McIntyre went to work as a public relations
director for the California Restaurant Association, a position
he held until 2000.

During those years, McIntyre spent considerable time
promoting the restaurant industry's positions on restaurant
smoking policy. In the 1980's, those positions were aligned
with the tobacco industry, but switched to oppose tobacco in
the early 1990's, when the California Restaurant Association
adopted a position in favor of a 100 percent smoking ban in
all restaurants and bars statewide.

After a vigorous battle with the tobacco industry, this
position, that McIntyre helped promote, came to fruition
when California Assembly Bill 13 passed in 1994, making
California the first state to go smoke free in all workplaces.

To further his advocacy on secondhand smoke issues, in
2000 McIntyre, founded KIISS (Kids Involuntarily Inhaling
Secondhand Smoke). Today KIISS works to educate
restaurateurs, hoteliers and bar owners nationwide on the
benefits of adopting smoke-free workplace policies.

In California, KIISS also works to promote smoke-free
homes and cars for kids.
